Attention: New DPOR Regulations Regarding Licensing..

Fingerprinting/Criminal Background Check Required for

Virginia Real Estate Licensure Application

* As of July 1, 2009 fingerprinting will be mandatory.  Before submitting an application for a Virginia real estate license, each applicant must submit a set of fingerprints to the Virginia Central Criminal Records Exchange for the purpose of conducting a state and national fingerprint-based criminal history record.

What to do once you have passed the exam:

Get fingerprinted at one of the Virginia PSI sites.  PSI provides fingerprinting services for your convenience for a $62.00 fee.

If you are fingerprinted at PSI, all data will be forwarded, for you, to the Central Criminal Records Exchange, which also sends the data to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  THIS PROCESS MAY TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS.  The results of both state and national background checks will be sent directly to the Commonwealth of Virginia, Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR).

When you apply for your license with DPOR you must submit, along with your license application, the verification form provided by PSI that proves your fingerprints have been submitted for a background check.

Please do notcontact DPOR, the FBI or PSI during this process.

All fingerprinting fees are NON-REFUNDABLE once the service has been provided (no exceptions).

PSI provides fingerprinting services during regular testing hours (see next page for locations & times).  This service is offered for walk-ins only on a first come/first serve basis.

The $62.00 fee may be payable by money order, cashier’s check, VISA or Mastercard.  This payment includes the state processing fee of $27,00 and the PSI processing fee of $25.00
